5 Fears That Stop Indie Consulting Brands To Say No To Shit Deals, Clients and More.
There are some truths we’ve experienced. Saying No is hard, because of:
“If we don’t do this, we’ll never have an opportunity like this again”.[right…]
Fear of rejection
We don’t really know how to deal with rejection, it either feels like we are hurting others or we get hurt. What hurts more? Being open and honest about what is a priority or do things resenting them and not putting your best in?
Fear of losing
We’re just soooo close. It’s almost ours — we’ve invested so much! Quoting Chris Do, “How can you lose something that was never yours in the first place?”. This is about letting go and make ourselves more aware of what we want and how we can actually help. It’s detaching to be true to ourselves and to others.
Fear of “Not Being Inclusive”
We all want to make a better world (at least I hope you do, if you’re reading this) and ideally help everybody on the planet. Reality check: we can’t. We can’t help everybody because there will always be people who don’t want it. And that’s fine. The point is not to shove down their throats that “we can help them because we know better”. It’s about helping the ones we can and that resonate with us, because those are the ones that will start creating a greater impact and, eventually, if everything goes really well, spread the word and they will help others too.
Fear of “Not Being Generous”
I define Generosity as Bringing yourself to the best of your ability to make things happen, to not hold back. The only way to do that is saying No, otherwise we won’t commit completely to help others at our best.
Embrace the uncomfortable. You’ll feel lighter.
